 Getting To The JMT...

The plan is to drive to Yosemite (directions) on Sunday, August 4th in the afternoon and pick up our wilderness permit at the Big Oak Flat entrance. We will camp Sunday night in Yosemite Valley at the backpacker campground and begin hiking early Monday morning. Here is a map of Yosemite Valley with parking and the campground clearly marked in pink. We will leave a vehicle parked in Yosemite Valley so we have a way to get home when we return to Yosemite...16 days later.

 Getting Home...

The plans to get back to Yosemite are a little more complicated. It involves hitchhiking from Whitney Portal (The Mt. Whitney trailhead on the east side of the High Sierra) to Lone Pine, public transportation back to Yosemite, and a Yosemite shuttle back to our vehicle. And yes, there will be PIZZA and ICE CREAM along the way!
